Planning guidance

Common mulch estimate questions.

How many square feet does a cubic yard of mulch cover?

At 3 inches deep, one cubic yard covers about 100 square feet. At 2 inches, it covers 150 square feet. At 4 inches, it covers 75 square feet.

How do I calculate mulch coverage?

Multiply length × width to get area in square feet. Divide by coverage per cubic yard at your chosen depth. Add 5–10% for waste.
